Lok Cheung says Youtubers should shoot HLG

How do you shoot YouTube videos really quickly and still have the flexibility to grade your footage? Vlogger Lok Cheung explains why he believes shooting in HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) HDR mode is the answer. Originally designed by the BBC and NHK as a high quality broadcast HDR standard which could be used for all kinds of TV shows, an increasing number of YouTubers are turning to HLG to shoot their regular (Rec.709) footage. Watch this video to learn more.

Shooting HLG is half the answer. Most camera’s built-in screens don’t show HLG very well. To have the certainty that you are exposing HLG correctly and getting good colors requires a HDR monitor like the Atomos Shinobi or Ninja V. These will give you confidence that the image you record will come out well on your computer.
