Koey with Miew Capturing Southern Thailand in ProRes RAW with Sony Alpha A7S III & Ninja V

Join Koey with Miew as they travel around Southern Thailand and allow us to experience the vibrant colours they were able to capture. Since the launch of the Sony A7SIII, filmmaker Koey began planning a cinematic shoot in Southern Thailand in Surat Thani, Krabi.

As a ProRes RAW advocate, he brought along his trustworthy external monitor-recorder Ninja V which is now capable of handling the Sony A7S III’s 16-bit RAW output. He was also amazed at the auto-focus functionality on the A7S III and how well it works with the Ninja V.

This is what he had to say: “The Ninja V is my go-to tool, and one many reasons as to why my Ninja V is always with me is because I use the waveform monitor to correct the best exposure during the shoot. This is an important monitoring tool for me because the A7S III only has the histogram function which I believe is not as good for exposure correction as a waveform. The Ninja V waveform and the false colour are my go-to monitoring tools which greatly impacts my creative decisions when on a shoot. ProRes Raw really benefits my workflow as I can now work smoothly across many supported cameras (ZCam E2, Nikon Z6 and other ProRes RAW supported cameras) in Adobe Premiere Pro. I’m able to convert ProResRaw Files to Slog3 which I find much easier and conformable to work with. Another benefit is that ProRes RAW wraps all the image data, audio, and metadata into a single file, making it easy to organize and manage in larger projects.”
