Embarking on a long adventure and facing challenging weather conditions, Rob needed to ensure his equipment was lightweight and durable. The Ninja V+ was light enough to carry in his backpack and one single charge of the monitor’s battery overnight lasted him the duration of the day.
Chasing the Present on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland
As part of his short film ‘Chasing the Present’, travel creator Rob Strok captures the scenic wonders of Iceland with help from the Ninja V+ and Canon EOS R5 camera.
Rob was able to film in high resolutions of up to 8K in ProRes RAW, a feature of the Ninja V+ which enabled him to edit the footage simply and effectively. “Combining the 8K functionality of the Ninja V+ with the Canon EOS R5 made it a very powerful filmmaking tool,” he said.
“The resolution of the Ninja V+ was so incredible that I was able to take screen grabs from the monitor, put them on my computer and use them as thumbnails for my YouTube video.”
Unlocking the tools of the Ninja V
In a climate where lighting conditions were constantly changing, Rob was able to utilise the built-in colour correction tools of the Ninja V+, enabling him to gauge the result prior to uploading and editing the footage. In particularly bright settings Rob could also adjust focus on the Ninja’s 5.2” HDR monitor, which he admits is difficult using a camera LCD. “Having that big, fielded view of what you are capturing was awesome; no focus was missed during the entire trip.”
As a filmmaker who is always on the move, having equipment which lessens the burden of a long trip is advantageous. “The Ninja V+ eliminates the stress out of the field and editing. I consistently aim to get the best image in the shortest amount of time. A tool like this really benefits me,” said Rob.
