Atomos Unveils Super-fast USB4 CFexpress Card Reader

Blazingly quick 40Gbps transfer speeds blow away workflow bottlenecks for production to postproduction.

By Atomos

NAB, Las Vegas – 19th April 2026: Atomos (booth #C4731) today announces the launch of a new USB4 CFexpress Card Reader, a next-generation solution engineered to meet the demands of ProRes RAW and high-frame-rate workflows.

As content creators increasingly work with bigger file sizes, traditional data transfer speeds have become a critical bottleneck in production pipelines. The Atomos USB4 CFexpress Card Reader meets this challenge head-on by delivering transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps. This significant performance boost enables professionals to move large volumes of data quickly and efficiently, reducing delays in postproduction.

“Moving data off your media quickly is critical in today’s workflows. With USB4, we’re now delivering transfer speeds up to four times faster than previous USB generations, which removes one of the biggest bottlenecks in production and postproduction. It’s so fast you can even connect it directly to your device via USB-C and use it like an external SSD. Or you can mount your media on your computer and work straight from it as a connected drive,” commented Peter Barber, Atomos CEO.

“And it’s not just for Atomos Ninja users, this reader works with any CFexpress Type B card, so filmmakers can move footage recorded in their cameras into their systems faster than ever. It’s a simple product, but it makes a huge difference to how quickly you can get your work done!”

The card reader is both high-performance and durable. Its aircraft-grade aluminum alloy construction provides a premium feel, at the same time enhancing heat dissipation to maintain stable operation during intensive use. Its compact and portable form factor makes it ideal for creators working both in studios and on location.

The device is the perfect accessory for the new generation of Atomos monitor-recorders, including Ninja RAW, Ninja TX GO, Ninja TX, Shogun AV-19 and Sumo PRO-19, all of which record ProRes RAW to CFexpress media. This compatibility enables a streamlined workflow from capture to postproduction, supporting a more efficient and unified production process.

By offering USB4-level speeds at a competitive price point, Atomos delivers a compelling option for professionals seeking a meaningful upgrade over slower alternatives without any significant increase in cost.

Key Features of USB4 CFexpress Card Reader:

  • Blazingly fast USB4 file copy and backup
  • Up to four times faster than USB3
  • Light, yet durable aluminum casing
  • Highly efficient heat dissipation design
  • Essential accessory for all Atomos next-generation monitor-recorders

Availability

The Atomos USB4 CFexpress Card Reader can be preordered now and is expected to ship in June 2026. It will be priced at USD $129 / EUR 129 excluding local sales taxes and tariffs.
