Shooting on the slopes

During an intense ski shoot in St. Anton, Pete Elliott made the most of the Ninja TX GO’s lightweight design, bright screen, and touch‑to‑focus features to stay on top of the action.

Pete Elliott is a photographer and filmmaker based in London. He runs a production company that creates visual stories for brands in sport, lifestyle, and tourism. His team creates anything from fast-turnaround social content to larger commercial campaigns.

Pete recently took the Ninja TX GO on a demanding ski shoot in St. Anton, Austria, where he was filming a 45‑second commercial for Jackery, a company known for portable power stations and solar solutions. The brief was to show how a portable charger could be used in and around skiing, which meant long days in the alpine environment, constant movement, and shooting in cold, icy conditions. Pete worked with a Sony A7S III camera and a set of 16-35mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses.

Weight was one of the first things Pete noticed. Ninja TX GO is built as a compact, travel‑friendly monitor, and that made a notable difference out on the slopes. “It’s incredibly lightweight yet packed with useful features, which makes it ideal for the run‑and‑gun style of videography that most of my shoots demand,” he says.

Ski touring meant carrying camera gear, skis, and safety equipment up steep terrain through deep snow and patches of hard ice every day, so keeping his bag light was essential. “When you’re hiking to high-altitude areas with all your kit, every gram matters,” Pete explains. “The Ninja TX GO’s portable design stood out straight away on those long touring days, where a heavy bag is always a problem.”

The bright alpine sun created another challenge. Snow glare can make most monitors difficult to use, but the Ninja TX GO’s 1500nit display held up without issue. “Its bright, crisp display cut through the glare easily,” Pete says. “I could monitor exposure and focus accurately even at midday on sun‑drenched slopes.”

“After putting it through its paces, I can confidently say the Ninja TX GO has earned a permanent place in my kit.”

Touch‑to‑focus quickly became one of the features that Pete relied on most. With support for cameras like the A7S III, it let him shift focus or pick up subject tracking just by tapping the screen. On a fast‑paced ski shoot, being able to respond swiftly helped him keep up with the action. “Touch‑to‑focus became invaluable during spontaneous moments,” Pete says. “A skier ripping through fresh powder or executing an unexpected trick, and I could instantly tap to adjust focus. It’s one of my favourite features on a Sony camera, and it was always lost with older monitors.”

After the shoot, Pete felt the Ninja TX GO was perfectly suited to his type of work. His projects often call for quick decisions and fast reactions, so having a monitor that can respond just as quickly makes a big difference. “For lifestyle, sport, and travel filmmakers who prioritise mobility without compromising monitoring quality, Ninja TX GO delivers exceptional value,” he says. “After putting it through its paces, I can confidently say it’s earned a permanent place in my kit. It’s changed how I approach remote shoots, giving me professional-grade monitoring in a package built for real‑world location work. I would highly recommend it to anyone.”
