Framing the fight

In the boxing ring, every second counts, and the lightweight Shinobi monitor ensures filmmaker Peter Velazquez captures every unmissable moment with clarity.

Peter is a Florida-based documentary filmmaker and content creator whose work ranges from boxing promos and branded athlete campaigns to documentary‑style storytelling and corporate events. “I’m passionate about capturing authentic, high‑energy stories that combine cinematic imagery with meaningful narratives,” he says.

Peter’s main camera is a Sony FX3, paired with Sigma 24‑70mm and 100mm macro lenses. To add movement and variety, he incorporates gimbals, drones, and camera mounts for dynamic shots. He uses the Atomos 5-inch Shinobi monitor to ensure his ideas are captured as intended. “The Shinobi is an essential part of my setup. I rely on it to make sure that every frame matches my vision for composition, exposure, and overall look,” he explains.

Lightweight and portable, Shinobi gives Peter the confidence to keep up with fast‑paced shoots. “I chose the Shinobi because I needed a reliable monitor that could give me a clear picture in any environment, especially during action-packed boxing events with unpredictable lighting,” he explains.

As fighters circled the ring during a recent boxing promo, shifting light made exposure a constant challenge. Peter turned to Shinobi’s exposure tools and focus assist to fine-tune his desired look mid-shoot. “With quick access to these features, I can move faster on set and stay confident knowing that every shot is exactly as I intend, right in‑camera. I was able to adapt instantly and ensure I didn’t miss any key moments,” he recalls.

“With Shinobi, I can stay confident knowing that every shot is exactly as I intend, right in‑camera.”

The monitor also proved indispensable at an MMA event. “I had to manually focus the entire fight because autofocus kept locking onto the cage. Thanks to the Shinobi’s clarity, I was able to keep everything sharp – something that would’ve been nearly impossible using only my camera screen.”

As Peter’s portfolio continues to grow, Atomos remains a trusted part of his setup. “I’m focused on telling the deeper stories of fighters’ lives inside and outside the ring,” he says. “Looking ahead, I plan to upgrade my monitoring system with Atomos to give me even greater flexibility on future shoots. This will allow me to adapt to challenging lighting, work efficiently across multiple cameras, and push my work to a higher cinematic standard.”
