Storytelling with Ninja

Learn how Giorgi Chekurishvili built a career in cinematography with Ninja at the heart of his workflow.

By Atomos

Giorgi Chekurishvili’s journey into cinematography began at an early age. While still in school, he borrowed a friend’s camera to film his graduation ceremony. “Everyone loved the result, which made me incredibly happy,” he recalls. Encouraged by the response, he used the earnings from that project to buy his first analog Sony Handycam, a pivotal moment that marked the start of his filmmaking career.

Today, Giorgi’s portfolio spans commercials, TV shows, films, stop-motion animation and live music events for global artists like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Imagine Dragons. “I try to enjoy every single project I take on, whether it’s big or small,” he says. “The ones I value the most are those that challenge me, because they develop my skills and help sharpen my creative vision.”

His workflow adapts to each project and location, but his go-to setup features the RED Komodo 6K camera paired with the Atomos Ninja monitor-recorder. “I often shoot in a wide range of conditions – indoors and outdoors, day and night, through rain, snow, wind, or sunshine. This setup supports me wherever the job takes me,” he says.

Giorgi had been following Atomos since its first monitor release, and the launch of Ninja caught his attention. “Back then, I was using Sony mirrorless cameras that only recorded 8-bit internally. That wasn’t ideal for proper color correction. I needed 10-bit ProRes files, and Ninja made that possible – it was a huge step forward.”

“Ninja’s tools give me confidence on set. I can relax, trust my gear, and focus on creativity and improvisation.”

Seven years on, and Ninja remains a key part of Giorgi’s workflow. “In all my time using Ninja, I’ve never encountered a single flaw,” he says. “For me, Ninja is irreplaceable, and I’ll always be a loyal customer.” He relies on its full suite of features, from false color and waveforms to ProRes RAW recording. “These tools give me confidence on set. I can relax, trust my gear, and focus on creativity and improvisation.”

Currently, Giorgi is filming the third season of Georgia’s hit TV show The Last Season. “I truly enjoy the team and the flow of the project. The craft is getting better with each day we shoot,” he says. Away from the set, he’s collaborating with friends on a stop-motion short film with a completely different aesthetic, while keeping the door open for whatever comes next.
