Sony A7S III

As a standalone camera, the Sony A7S III delivers exceptional 4K video with class-leading speed, dynamic range, 5-axis image stabilisation and autofocus precision. Partnered with the Atomos Ninja V, however it is a formidable combination opening a 4Kp30 RAW workflow to capture the full dynamic range from the camera’s state-of-the-art CMOS image sensor. For applications where the flexibility of RAW is not needed, users are able to record 10-bit ProRes 422 for the first time in a Sony mirrorless camera and take advantage of the class-leading monitoring functions and affordable media options that the Ninja V delivers.

Sony Alpha A7S III + Ninja V

The new next generation full-frame mirrorless Sony A7S III camera and the Ninja V HDR monitor-recorder enables a powerful ultra high resolution RAW video workflow. The image data can be recorded to the Ninja V in Apple ProRes RAW, fully capturing the wide dynamic range of the A7S III’s state-of-the-art Sony sensor for the maximum detail and latitude in post-production from the camera’s large photosites - optimal for HDR finishing or to give greater flexibility in SDR (Rec.709). Alternatively, you can record production-ready Apple ProRes or Avis DNx video at up to 4k59.94p at 10-bit.

Amazing detail with 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW

The Ninja V captures tremendous detail with 12-bit log files with over 68 billion color graduations! This is converted from the camera’s 16-bit linear RAW output. This process has the advantage of being visually indistinguishable from 16-bit Linear recording, while still having practical data rates.

Capture up to 4.2K resolution at up to 59.94 frames per second. These unprocessed files are extremely clean, preserving the maximum dynamic range, color accuracy and every detail, allowing for greater creativity in post-production with perfect skin tones and easily matched colors, ideal for both HDR and SDR (Rec.709) workflows.

‘Paddleboarder’ by Philip Bloom

Shot with Atomos Ninja V and Sony A7S III

Join filmmaker Philip Bloom for a peaceful trip down London's River Thames, all captured with the Sony Alpha 7S III and the Atomos Ninja V HDR monitor-recorder in 4K RAW. Bloom follows paddleboarder Julian Wakefield on the warm summer's day trip and the results clearly demonstrate how filmic the RAW images from the combination look.

The ProRes RAW Advantage

Creators are granted complete creative control of their video images in post-production as Apple ProRes RAW combines the flexibility of RAW video with the real-time performance of ProRes. The format gives filmmakers incredible latitude when adjusting the look of the their images and extending brightness and shadow detail – making ProRes RAW ideal for HDR workflows.

In addition to their groundbreaking combination of flexibility and performance, ProRes RAW files are smaller than other RAW files – simplifying and accelerating file transfer, media management, and archiving. ProRes RAW files can easily be edited on most modern Apple Mac systems.

Production ready with Apple ProRes 422 and Avid DNx

For the first time in a Sony mirrorless camera you can now record full-frame 10-bit 422 Log or Rec.709 video from the A7S III at up to 4Kp60 directly into Apple ProRes or Avid DNx codecs. This allows for practical data rates and perfect for shoots where these production codecs are required for workflow or speed of turnaround.

Versatile production tool with long record times

The stable operation and long RAW record times that the Ninja V brings to the A7S III make it a brilliant tool for almost any production. Combined with a high quality HDR monitor display and assist tools, cost effective media and a perfect form factor – it makes this product partnership a no brainer for your camera.

Atomos HDR monitoring using the Ninja V

The accurate 5” 1000nit HDR high brightness display of the Ninja V allows users to view the A7S III signal in HDR in a choice of HLG and PQ (HDR10) formats. The monitor offers touchscreen access to tools like waveforms, magnify or engage peaking check focus for each angle and make any adjustments to get the perfect HDR or SDR shot.

Shogun 7 shares the same AtomOS 10 operating systems as Ninja V and is an equally capable match with the Sony A7S III.
